#Watch Megan Thee Stallion Talk Beyoncé, Body Positivity, More on Colbert

On tonight’s episode of The Late Show, Stephen Colbert welcomed Megan Thee Stallion. The rapper sat down for an interview, where she discussed her numerous recent accolades, why she titled her new album Good News, and what it meant to collaborate with Beyoncé. Watch excerpts of the interview below.

Colbert asked her who gives better advice, Beyoncé or JAY-Z. “JAY-Z gives the fun advice,” she said. “Like say if I’m havin’ a bad day, he’ll be like, ‘Girl you need to be somewhere drivin’ a boat. Turn up. Have a good time.’ He gives me the more hot girl advice. Beyoncé is like, ‘Look queen, just rise above.’ She says it the nicer way and JAY-Z gives it to me the more turnt up way.” Later, after Colbert mentioned that Pitchfork named “WAP” song of the year, she addressed the Republican backlash to the song.

She also discussed writing “Body” as a celebration of body positivity and gave Colbert some advice. “The hook literally came from me looking in the mirror admiring my fluff,” she said. When Colbert responded that he doesn’t like spending too much time in front of a full-length mirror, she replied,  “No! You gotta appreciate! Let it marinate, let it sit, like, ‘I like this! I like where this is going!’”

Megan Thee Stallion’s new album Good News just arrived at the end of November. It was named by Pitchfork one of “The 50 Best Albums of 2020,” and she had two songs in Pitchfork’s “100 Best Songs of 2020.” Read “The Year Megan Thee Stallion Became a Symbol.”
