Start the speculation as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will soon reveal a big movie project he’s working on based on a popular video game. As a dominant force in Hollywood on both sides of the camera, Johnson has countless upcoming projects in the works, and he recently opened up about one he’s thrilled to help bring to life. The actor has teased making a major video game-based film in a new interview with plans to make an official announcement sometime in 2022.

The problem is that The Rock is not saying which game he plans on giving the movie treatment. He only says that it’s one of the “biggest, most badass games” ever made, emphasizing that he’s a big fan personally as it’s one he’s played for many years. There were no further hints divulged, so that’s all we have to work with for now. The good news is that whatever the case may be, The Rock and Co plan on pleasing the gaming community while making a solid movie n the process. Per Men’s Journal, here’s what Johnson had to say about the mystery project.

“I’ve always been a big Madden fan. I can’t tell you which game in particular we’re doing, but there will be an announcement this year. We’re going to bring one of the biggest, most badass games to the screen—one that I’ve played for years. I’m really excited to bring it to fans around the world. Of course we’re going to do right by our gamer friends—but really we’re just going to make a great movie.”

Gamers have been offering their best guesses as to what The Rock might be talking about. God of War seems to be coming up often with fans on social media discussing the news, as one popular game that’s had rumors of a movie adaptation for years. Many other fans are predicting that it will be Gears of War, but it’s hard to say, as Dave Bautista has been trying to get that movie made for years with no such luck. Another guess from fans is that it could be Fortnite based on The Rock’s recent appearance in the actual video game.

The Rock Has Plenty of Experience With Video Game Movies

In any case, this will be far from the first video game movie with Dwayne Johnson involved. In 2005, he starred in a Doom adaptation with Karl Urban and Rosamund Pike, but it was a box office bomb that was released to very negative reviews. This didn’t mean he was finished with video game movies as he more recently starred in 2018’s Rampage, a blockbuster based on the classic video game of the same name. It performed much better than Doom.

We’ll have to wait for The Rock’s official announcement to come to find out which video game adaptation he’ll be working on, but even with no title yet given, the news already has piqued the interest of many fans.
