“#Watch Jamila Woods Perform “SULA (Paperback)” on Colbert”
Jamila Woods made an appearance on a live special coverage edition of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last night (January 6). Woods gave a moving performance of her 2020 single “SULA (Paperback),” with backing vocalists and a string section. Her appearance on The Late Show followed news of the rioters who breached the U.S. Capitol yesterday. Watch Woods’ performance of “SULA (Paperback)”—which was written in honor of the late writer Toni Morrison—below.
Yesterday’s incident occurred when a group loyal to Donald Trump stormed the Capitol building to protest Congress’ formal approval of Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election. The riot caused members of Congress to shelter in place, the formal electoral college proceedings were postponed, and one woman was killed during the breach. Congress reconvened hours later to confirm Biden’s election.
