#Watch Cardi B’s Video for New Song “Up”

Cardi B’s new song “Up” has arrived as promised, and it comes with a new video. The new Tanu Muino-directed visual opens with a shot of Cardi in a cemetery near a gravestone that reads “RIP 2020.” Watch it below.

The new single is Cardi’s follow-up to her raunchy hit with Megan Thee Stallion, “WAP.” In a new interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Cardi talked about how she decided to pivot away from the sexual themes of that song and make a song that—like her first mixtape—is inspired by Chicago drill. “I was young, and I liked that and everything, so my mixtape was very all about gangster violence,” she said. “If it’s up, then it’s stuck, and that’s where I wanted to take it with this record.”

She also said she plans to put out an album this year and has “like 50 songs” recorded. “I’m just still not satisfied,” she said. “If I’m not satisfied, I’m just not satisfied, but I really want to put out an album this year. I feel like I have no choice now. Now, I feel like I exceeded my limit of holding. I just need to stop with the fear.”

“WAP” set a record for the biggest debut streaming week and was named Pitchfork’s No. 1 song of 2020. It was not submitted for Grammy consideration this year; representatives said it would instead be submitted next year as part of Cardi’s forthcoming album. Cardi’s last album was 2018’s Invasion of Privacy.

In addition to “WAP,” Cardi appeared as a guest on BLACKPINK’s “Bet You Wanna” and Anitta’s “Me Gusta” in 2020.
