Last night (December 10), Dua Lipa earned the Powerhouse Award at Billboard’s 15th Annual Women in Music event. She was presented the award by Senator Bernie Sanders (with whom she’s previously conversed about politics). “What this year has made clear, more than anything else, is that none of us can go back to business as usual,” Sanders said. “The winner of tonight’s Powerhouse Award understands that.” The Vermont senator continued:
She has said loudly and clearly, with her actions, that now is the time to fight for a better future for all. She’s fighting for young people, women, refugees, the LGBTQ community. She’s using her platform to bring people into the democratic process. She’s raising her voice to demand real change. I spoke with Dua over Zoom a few weeks ago, and it is clear to me that she knows the rules have to change, that it is time for new rules to create a world that works for all of us and not just the very wealthy.
