Watch A$AP Rocky in the trailer for Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest

Denzel Washington plays the lead in Lee’s remake of Akira Kurosawa’s hostage thriller, out in theaters on August 22.
Anytime that Spike Lee and Denzel Washington get to work together on a film, it’s more likely than not going to be a hit. The trailer for their latest feature-length link Highest 2 Lowest spells it out: Malcolm X. Inside Man. Mo’ Better Blues. He Got Game. That’s a formidable collaborative run, and since the new one is a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s beloved 1963 thriller High and Low, the stakes are high for this one to keep the streak alive.
In the trailer, soundtracked by James Brown’s “The Big Payback,” Washington delivers a grindset-tinged monologue over bustling shots of New York City: cops, street festivals, and a gun being fired at the windshield of a Rolls-Royce. You’ll catch a couple glimpses of A$AP Rocky, too, who joins the cast as a rapper named Yung Felon (Ice Spice is also in the movie, but she’s not in the trailer). Lee called Rocky’s performance in the film “fire” during a recent appearance on Carmelo Anthony’s podcast.
