“Uzumaki Anime Twitter Account Posts Cryptic New Visual For Toonami 25th Anniversary”

The official Twitter account for the upcoming horror anime Uzumaki posted a new, cryptic visual in celebration of Toonami’s 25th anniversary. The visual features a singular eyeball placed between the anime’s title, within an ominous spiral. The anticipated anime adaptation of Junji Itou’s manga of the same name will premiere sometime this October 2022

Uzumaki was originally set to broadcast in 2021, but COVID-19 had forced director Hiroshi Nagahama (The Flowers of Evil) to delay production. An update video regarding the new broadcast date in October 2022 was released last June. Another video showing Junji Itou voicing a secret character in the anime was released on their Twitter account last December.

The anime adaptation was originally announced in 2019 as a four-episode series. Studio Drive is in charge of the animation production while Production I.G. USA and Adult Swim are producing the anime. Colin Stetson (Hereditary) is composing the series musical score.

Viz Media publishes the original manga in English and describes the story as:

Kurouzu-cho, a small fogbound town on the coast of Japan, is cursed. According to Shuichi Saito, the withdrawn boyfriend of teenager Kirie Goshima, their town is haunted not by a person or being but a pattern: UZUMAKI, the spiral—the hypnotic secret shape of the world. The bizarre masterpiece horror manga is now available all in a single volume. Fall into a whirlpool of terror!
