The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Junji Ito’s Uzumaki manga series has been delayed indefinitely once again. The announcement was made by the Uzumaki Anime Production Team on the anime’s official Twitter page. No firm updated premiere date has been given at this time. 

The production team explained that series director Hiroshi Nagahama (Mushishi, The Flowers of Evil) had asked for more time to recreate the manga properly and replicate the intricate designs, quality, and detailed line work present in Ito’s original manga.

They also stated that they don’t want to “compromise its quality by delivering a mediocre final project” and are “committed to pursuing the completion of this work at the highest caliber.” 

Adult Swim senior vice president Jason DeMarco also confirmed news of the delay on his Twitter page.

Originally announced in 2019, this will be the third delay in the highly anticipated anime production after an updated premiere date in October 2022. It was previously scheduled for release in 2020 and 2021. 

The four-episode Uzumaki anime series will be produced entirely in black and white animation. Studio Drive is in charge of the animation production while Production I.G. USA and Adult Swim are producing the anime. 

The voice cast includes Uki Satake as Kirie Goshima, Shinichirou Miki as Shuichi Saito, Toshio Furukawa as Kirie’s Father, Takashi Matsuyama as Shuichi’s Father, Mika Doi as Yukie Saito, Mariya Ise as Azami Kurotami, Katsunoshi Matsuzaki as Katayama, Wataru Hatano as Okada, Tatsumaru Tachibana as Tsumura, Kouichi Tōchika as Yokota, and Ami Fukushima as Shiho.

Viz Media publishes the manga in English and describes the series as:
