Since acquiring Star Wars in 2012, Disney has massively expanded the franchise through a sequel trilogy, spin-off films, and animated projects. While 2019 marked the end of The Skywalker Saga, the franchise continues to grow, and now Star Wars has found a successful home on Disney+ in the world of streaming.

In a recent issue of Vanity Fair, Lucasfilm revealed many details about the future of the franchise. While there are a number of films in development, a good portion of the piece was focused on the franchise’s shift to television. Since Disney+ launched, they have released two seasons of The Mandalorian, a final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the anime anthology series Star Wars: Visions, the animated series Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and most recently The Book of Boba Fett. It appears the franchise is not slowing down as they have a number of series still in various stages of development set to air on Disney+.

While series like Lando and A Droid Story was previously announced, no major development has been made on them, while it appears the series Rangers of the New Republic have been scrapped altogether. Yet in spite of all that, there was plenty of news on many upcoming shows, so here is the rundown on the Star Wars series coming to Disney+ and when they will hit, based on confirmed dates and various rumored reports.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

The latest addition to the Star Wars franchise, Obi-Wan Kenobi is a miniseries set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope that sees Ewan McGregor return to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi, 17 years after he last played the character. Not much is known about the series’ plot, but it will feature a rematch between Kenobi and his former apprentice Anakin Skywalker (now Darth Vader), with Hayden Christensen reprising his role.

Related: Star Wars: Every Known Jedi That Survived Order 66Originally intended as a spin-off film, the premise was reworked into a series after the box office disappointment of Solo: A Star Wars Story, and is directed by Deborah Chow, who helmed two episodes of The Mandalorian in season one. The series will premiere with two episodes on May 27, 2022, and will run for six episodes before concluding on June 22, 2022.

Andor

A prequel set five years before Rogue One: A Star Wars story, Andor will see Diego Luna reprise his role as the Rebel Spy Cassian Andor. The series will show the early formation of the Rebellion and will see returning characters like Mon Mothma and Saw Gerrera, and given its place in the timeline as happening congruently with the animated series Star Wars: Rebels there could be a chance some characters make the leap to live-action. Andor will consist of twelve episodes, the longest order for any live-action Star Wars series, and is expected to premiere sometime in late summer 2022. Andor has been confirmed for season two already, which will begin filming in late 2022.

The Mandalorian Season 3

The Star Wars series that kicked off the Disney+ launch, The Mandalorian is set to return to Disney+ for a third season in either late 2022 or early 2023. While season two concluded in December 2020, audiences got to see the titular hero and the lovable Grogu recently in The Book of Boba Fett. The upcoming season of The Mandalorian will likely build off from that series, as well as pay off plot points laid out at the end of season two, including the darksaber and the state of Mandalore. Since the Star Wars franchise has had a very great history with the month of December, as four of the five Disney-era films were released in that month and both seasons of The Mandalorian aired during the holiday season, it is likely season 3 will arrive in late 2022.

Ahsoka

Introduced in 2008’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated film and series as an apprentice to Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano has become a breakout Star Wars character who has grown increasinly important to the wider mythology, showing up in Star Wars: Rebels as one of the founders of the Rebel Alliance. The character made her first live-action appearance in The Mandalorian season two, as played by Rosario Dawson.

That episode acted as a sort of backdoor pilot for the upcoming Ahsoka television series, which seems to be picking up as a continuation of Star Wars: Rebels with the character searching for Grand Admiral Thrawn. The series will also see the first live-action appearance of the character Sabine Wren, played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo, and is rumored to feature Ezra Bridger. The series is set to premiere in 2023, and with the same creative team as The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, there is bound to be a crossover with the various series.

The Bad Batch Season 2

Disney premiered Star Wars: The Bad Batch in 2021 on May the Fourth as was one of three Star Wars series for Disney+ that year, alongside Star Wars: Visions and The Book of Boba Fett. The series has given audiences a view of the early days of the Empire’s creation and how the Clone Trooper program was phased out for Storm Troopers as well as showcasing how various individuals react to the new power structure, seen through the eyes of Clone Force 99 nicknamed the Bad Batch.

Season one ended with a hint of redemption for the character Crosshair, as well as laying the groundwork for Palpatine’s clone process seen in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Season two was originally intended to premiere in 2022, yet no update has been made, and while it is still a possibility given the three other Star Wars series set for release, it might be delayed to 2023.

The Acolyte

Produced and written by playwright Leslye Headland (who then co-created the Netflix series Russian Doll), The Acolyte is a prequel series to the entire franchise and is set 100 years before the events of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. The Acolyte will explore the emergence of the dark side threat and show how the galaxy arrived at its current point in the prequel trilogy. It will take place during the High Republic era that Disney has recently introduced in their new publishing line of Star Wars books, and Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) has been cast as the series lead. No release date has been set for the series, but it appears that filming will begin in October, so the series will likely arrive at Disney+ in late 2023.

Jon Watt’s Star Wars Series

Jon Watt is following up his MCU Spider-Man trilogy with a Star Wars series on Disney+. After recently announcing his departure from directing Fantastic Four, Watts is now set to develop a series that is set after Return of the Jedi and will focus on children in the wake of the formation of The New Republic. The series is described as a galactic version of Amblin’s coming-of-age adventure films from the 1980s.

The series is currently under the working code name Grammar Rodeo, which is a reference to The Simpsons episode ‘Bart on the Road,’ oddly enough, wherein Bart acquires a driver’s license and he and his friends tell their parents they are attending the Grammar Rodeo. While no release date has been set, given how the series has barely begun casting and no filming has taken place, it is likely the series won’t air on Disney+ until late 2023 or 2024 at the earliest.
