#United States not interested in buying Greenland

The market for buying Greenland just got even colder.

The US is no longer looking to buy the country, President Biden’s secretary of state said on Thursday.

“I can confirm that’s correct,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken told reporters at a press conference in the Arctic country, according to The Guardian.

“I am in Greenland because the United States deeply values our partnership and wants to make it even stronger,” Blinken said.

Blinken smiled when he was asked if the US was no longer interested in trying to make a deal, The Guardian said.

Former President Trump eyed purchasing Greenland, a self-governing part of Denmark, even as its leaders said it wasn’t for sale.

When it was reported that Trump had discussed buying Greenland, he got an icy reception from Danish leaders.

“It must be an April Fool’s joke … but totally out of (season),” former Danish prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said at the time.

Foreign Minister Pele Broberg had said Wednesday that Blinken’s visit was “not considered a real estate deal,” Reuters reported.

“A real estate deal means land with nothing on it, nobody on it,” Broberg said.

“Secretary Blinken has made it clear that he’s here for the people living in the Arctic, for the people living in Greenland.”
