The animation production team released a first trailer and premiere date of Uncle From Another World this past March. An anime adaptation of the original manga series was confirmed in June 2021. It is based on the manga by Hotondoshindeiru, which began on June 29, 2018 and has published seven tankoubon volumes as of May 2022. It is serialized in Kadokawa’s ComicWalker magazine under its MF Comics label.
The main production staff includes Shigeki Kawai (Blue Exorcist assistant director) as director, Kenta Ihara (Mieruko-Chan) as series composer and scriptwriter, and Kazuhiro Oota (Natsu no Arashi!) as character designer. Atelier Pontdarc is in charge of animation production.
Meanwhile, the anime’s voice cast includes Takehito Koyasu as Ojisan, Jun Fukuyama as Takafumi, Mikako Komatsu as Fujimiya, Haruka Tomatsu as Elf, Aoi Yuuki as Mabel, and Aki Toyosaki as Alicia.

Yen Press releases the manga series in English for North America. It describes the manga as:
Seventeen years ago, Takafumi’s uncle fell into a coma, but now he’s back like a man risen from his grave. Soon, Takafumi discovers two bizarre things: His uncle treasures video games above all else, and, while comatose, he was actually transported to another world as some heroic guardian! Now, not only does Takafumi have to room with an uncle who is literally magical, he also has to catch the guy up on two decades of history—smartphones, high-speed internet, modern anime tropes…and the traumatic outcome of the ’90s console war!
