#U-17 World Cup Semifinal Spotlights Team Japan & Team Germany in New Teaser Visual & Trailer

Two new teaser visuals and a teaser PV trailer have been released for The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup Semifinal anime series. The follow-up season to The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup is expected to premiere sometime in October 2024. 

The latest visuals and trailer were showcased at ADK Emotions’ booth stage at AnimeJapan 2024. Both highlight the upcoming match between Team Japan, led by protagonist Ryoma Echizen, against the formidable Team Germany. 

Three new characters and voice actors from Team Germany were also revealed, including Fukushi Ochiai as Dankmar Schneider, Tomoya Ito as Bertie Borisovich Volk, and Chikahiro Kobayashi as Ken Lendoll.

They join a main voice cast that stars:

  • • Ryotaro Okiayu as Kunimitsu Tezuka
  • • Hiroki Yasumoto as Hoo Byoudouin
  • • Junichi Suwabe as Keigo Atobe
  • • Sachiko Nagai as Seiichi Yukimura
  • • Yoshimasa Hosoya as Kuranosuke Shiraishi
  • • Tarusuke Shingaki as Eishirō Kite
  • • Mamoru Miyano as Ryoga Echizen

Keiichiro Kawaguchi (ISLAND, Higurashi: When They Cry – Sotsu) is directing the new Prince of Tennis anime series, with Mitsutaka Hirota (Anime-Gataris, EDENS ZERO) as screenwriter, and Akiharu Ishii (Ultramarine Magmell, Noblesse) as character designer and chief animation director. Studio KAI and M.S.C are in charge of the animation production. 

The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup aired from July 7, 2022 to September 29, 2022 and was the first The Prince of Tennis II TV anime since 2012. The series took place after the events of the 2014 OVA The Prince of Tennis II OVA vs Genius10

The first manga series by Takeshi Konomi ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from July 19, 1999 to March 3, 2008 for a total of 42 tankobon volumes. The manga’s sequel The Prince of Tennis II was first serialized in Jump Square on March 4, 2009 and has released 41 tankobon volumes as of March 2024.

The manga has inspired several anime series, OVAs, and films, with the first Prince of Tennis TV anime airing from 2001 to 2007. 

Crunchyroll is streaming The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup and describes the series as:

When tennis phenom Ryoma Echizen is kicked out of Japan’s elite U-17 training camp for breaking the rules, he’s despondent. But a stroke of good luck hits when he’s able to try out for the U.S. team. Proving himself against their hardened veterans isn’t going to be easy, and if he is accepted, he’ll have to play against his former friends. Can he help his new brothers smash their way to victory?
