The Department of Education has confirmed that two city teachers who returned to their buildings Tuesday have tested positive for coronavirus.

Staffers at MS 88 and PS 13 — both in Brooklyn — tested positive for COVID-19, according to the DOE.

The agency said it is unknown when and where they contracted the virus. They are also investigating another possible case at PS 11, also in Brooklyn.

The DOE will now vet the cases and all employees at the three schools will be given the option of working remotely pending the outcome of the probe.

“School staff have access to free, expedited testing and we’ve encouraged all staff to get tested before they return to buildings while we continue to navigate the realities of a pandemic,” said DOE spokeswoman Miranda Barbot. “Our protocol is to immediately notify staff and Test and Trace will begin an investigation to determine any close contacts.”

The United Federation of Teachers reached a deal with City Hall last week to return to school buildings on Sept. 21 for a partial reopening.

But many city teachers have continued to argue that conditions are not adequately safe and that they don’t feel comfortable returning to classrooms.
