#Two LA County deputies out of surgery after ambush shooting in Compton

Sheriff Alex Villanueva called the condition of the deputies — a 31-year-old mother and a 24-year-old man — a “double miracle.”

“It looks like they’re going to be able to recover,” Villanueva said Sunday afternoon,” CNN reported.

“We’ll see what the long-term impact is. We don’t know that yet, but they survived the worst,” he said during a community dialogue event.

The sheriff’s department announced it is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect, who was caught on video firing at the deputies at point-blank range about 7 p.m. Saturday in Compton.

The suspect, seen wearing black clothing and a black cap, then took off running.

“This is just a somber reminder that this is a dangerous job, and actions and words have consequences. Our job does not get any easier because people do not like law enforcement,” Villanueva said. “It pisses me off, it dismays me at the same time. There’s no pretty way to say it.”

Law enforcement sources told the LA Times that at least one of the victims was shot in the face and the other in the head.

On Sunday, anti-police protesters descended on the hospital where two deputies were fighting for their lives and chanted, “We hope they die!”

Police described the protest an unlawful assembly, and arrested two people who refused to move — including a reporter without credentials who “ran towards the deputies, ignored repeated commands to stay back” and “interfered with the arrest,” the department said.

LAist identified the reporter as its own Josie Huang, who said she was released early Sunday.

President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden both condemned the shooting.

“When we find that person we got to get much faster with our courts, and we got to get much tougher with our sentencing,” Trump told a group of Latino supporters in Las Vegas on Sunday, according to CNN.

Biden called the shooting “absolutely unconscionable.”

“Acts of lawlessness and violence directed against police officers are unacceptable, outrageous, and entirely counterproductive to the pursuit of greater peace and justice in America — as are the actions of those who cheer such attacks on,” he said in a statement.
