Netflix has announced that Misato Morita will play the role of Ryo Saeba’s partner Kaori Makimura in its upcoming City Hunter live-action film. A promotional image of Morita in costume has been released.

The streaming platform also revealed that the film is being filmed on-location in Shinjuku and Kabukicho. The movie will take place in modern-day Shinjuku.

The City Hunter movie is set to be released in 2024. It was previously announced that Yuuichi Satou (Na mo Naki Sekai no End Roll) is directing it with Ryohei Suzuki in the role of Ryo.

The Shueisha-published manga by Tsukasa Houjou ran from 1985 to 1991, while two spin-offs from other manga artists began in 2017 and 2018 respectively. An anime TV series adaptation aired in 1987 and was followed by a few additional seasons, TV specials, and movies. A new City Hunter anime movie will premiere in 2023.

City Hunter was previously adapted into a 1993 live-action movie with Jackie Chan in the lead. The manga has also inspired a 2019 French adaptation and a yet-to-be-released Chinese adaptation.
