#‘TV’s Top 5’: Strike Updates; Finale Fever (With Alan Sepinwall)

Welcome to the 229th episode of TV’s Top 5, The Hollywood Reporter’s TV podcast.

Every week, hosts Lesley Goldberg (West Coast TV editor) and Daniel Fienberg (chief TV critic) break down the latest TV news with context from the business and critical sides, welcome showrunners, executives and other guests, and provide a critical guide of what to watch (or skip, as the case may be).

This week, we’re joined by Friend of the 5 Alan Sepinwall for a supersized look at some recent finales and break down the latest on the ongoing WGA strike. Here’s how this week’s episode plays out:

1. Mailbag

How can AMC shows film during the strikes? Did the last strike help get Trump elected? That and more in this week’s listener question segment. Have a question you’d like to hear us answer on the show? Email us at [email protected].

2. Strike Zone

This week, Warner Bros. Television Group suspended overall deals for its top producers. This segment explores what happened and why and looks at the larger impact(s) of deal suspensions.

3. September TV preview

With limited fall premieres, this year’s September calendar is thin but not without some high-profile shows (looking at you, The Morning Show). As usual, we run down the best of the best.

4. Season in Review

Let’s talk TV! Rolling Stone chief TV critic Alan Sepinwall joins the show again for a supersized conversation about Justified: City Primeval, How to With John Wilson, What We Do in the Shadows and Dark Winds. Warning: spoilers and tangents ahead!

5. Critic’s Corner

As usual, we end with Dan’s thoughts on this week’s new and returning series. In this episode, he weighs in on Apple’s The Changeling, AMC’s Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and FX’s Welcome to Wrexham season two.

Hear it all now on TV’s Top 5. Be sure to subscribe to the podcast to never miss an episode. (Reviews welcome!) You can also email us with any topics or Mailbag questions you’d like addressed in future episodes at [email protected].
