#Trump to give Lou Holtz the Presidential Medal of Freedom

President Trump announced Friday that he will award Notre Dame’s legendary former football coach, Lou Holtz, the Presidential Medal of Freedom — the nation’s highest civilian honor.

The president revealed the decision at a White House press briefing attended by Holtz, a staunch Trump supporter who delivered a speech at the Republican National Convention.

Trump said he chose Holtz after receiving letters of recommendation for the 83-year-old from an array of other notable college football coaches and “even political people.”

“We’ve analyzed it very closely. We’ve looked at all of those recommendations. We’ve looked at Lou’s life, and his career and what’s be done for charity and football — he was obviously a great coach — but what he’s done beyond even coaching,” Trump said at the briefing.

“So Lou will be getting the Presidential Medal of Freedom. And a date is being picked. It won’t be in the too distant future.”

Holtz coached Notre Dame for 11 seasons and won the 1988 national title. He also coached at South Carolina for six seasons afterwards and coached the Jets for one season.
