#Trump says he was not watching live TV coverage of Capital Hill riot

Former President Donald Trump on Sunday night denied that he was watching live television coverage of the deadly Capitol Hill riot.

Trump was responding to a Washington Post story that claimed he was “watching it all unfold” on Jan. 6 in the White House as chaos erupted at the Capitol.

“That’s incorrect reporting,” Trump told Fox News’ Steve Hilton.

“First of all, I wasn’t watching TV. I turned it on later on when I heard about it, and did a lot of moves.”

A former Trump adviser had told The Washington Post that the ex-commander-in-chief was glued to the tube as his supporters stormed the Capitol building, interrupting a vote to certify the election results.

“He was hard to reach, and you know why? Because it was live TV,” the ex-adviser told the newspaper. “If it’s TiVo, he just hits pause and takes the calls. If it’s live TV, he watches it, and he was just watching it all unfold.”

In Sunday’s interview, Trump condemned the siege, but called the outrage surrounding it a “double standard.”

“When you see Washington burning and when you see Seattle burning and Portland burning and all these other places burning with Antifa, and the radical left, nothing seems to happen,” Trump said.

He also told Hilton that his administration had alerted the Department of Defense to the rally near the White House that he spoke at before the attack.

As for the rally preceding the death and destruction in the Capitol building, Trump said it was something to be celebrated.

“It was a love fest. It was a beautiful thing,” he said.
