#Trump on message he left for Biden after leaving White House: ‘It was a nice note’

In a recent interview with Meet the Press, former President Trump said he left President Biden “a nice note” at the White House when he left office.

“I don’t think you’ve ever gotten this question. But it’s been reported that you left a note for President Biden when you left office,” Kristen Welker asked Trump in the interview set to air on Sunday. “Can you give us a little sense of what you said?”

Trump said he did leave Biden a note and that he took a lot of time thinking about it.

“It was a nice note,” he said.

“I’d love for him to do a great job, even if it was very bad politically,” Trump told Welker.

When Biden entered the White House, he called Trump’s message a “very generous letter.” At the time, he said he wouldn’t offer up the details of the letter because it was private.

It’s reportedly a presidential tradition where the departing president leaves behind a personal letter for their successor. It was unclear if Trump would keep the tradition going since he refused to concede the 2020 election.

Former President Obama didn’t leave Trump advice in his message, but offered “reflections.” He congratulated Trump on his run and said everyone, “regardless of party, should hope for expanded prosperity and security during your tenure.”

Recent polling puts Trump ahead of the other Republican 2024 candidates, which means a 2020 rematch between Biden and Trump could happen next year.
