#Trump hits back at ‘horrible’ Gov. Cuomo, ‘loser’ John Kasich for DNC attacks

President Trump came out swinging against some of the Democrats’ heavy hitters after taking continuous criticism on the first night of the Democratic National Convention.

Over the course of the evening, after the first night of events, the commander-in-chief tweeted and retweeted multiple attacks against New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo as well as former Ohio Gov. John Kasich, a 2016 GOP presidential hopeful.

Cuomo, who decried the Trump administration as “dysfunctional and incompetent,” was slammed by the president in a tweet Tuesday morning and two Monday evening.

Trump tweeted Tuesday, “A horrible Governor. Crime is taking over NYC & State, everyone is leaving. He is after the NRA – They should move to Texas or elsewhere, and must get tough. Cuomo killed 11,000 people in nursing homes alone. Crooked & Incompetent!”

On Monday night, Trump wrote in his first post, “Cuomo, just like his brother Fredo, has not got a very good memory!” The tweet was written alongside a video of the New York governor praising the White House response to the coronavirus.

In the second post, he referenced the situation at nursing homes in New York state that has left many of the elderly displaced or exposed to the virus.

“Now AP estimates that the real Cuomo number of people killed because of his total incompetence is 11,000, not the 6000 that was originally thought!” he wrote.

During his convention remarks, the New York governor slammed the federal government’s coronavirus response and praised state and local handling of the virus — specifically in his own state.

“We climbed the impossible mountain. Right now we are on the other side,” he said of New York’s response.

New York, the original epicenter of the US outbreak, has more than twice as many COVID-19 fatalities — more than 32,000 — as any other state, despite having fewer cases than three states.

Cuomo’s role in sending 6,300 infected people to nursing homes during the crisis is credited in part for the higher death rate in New York.

“We saw the failure of a government that tried to deny the virus, then tried to ignore it and then tried to politicize it — the failed federal government that watched New York get ambushed by their negligence and then watch New York suffer, but all through it learned absolutely nothing,” Cuomo said in his DNC speech.

In response to the attacks, Cuomo took to Twitter as well, writing that he had some “advice” for the president.

“1) When you are in a hole stop digging. The virus is real and spreading. Do your job on COVID,” he began.

“2) Stop lying. You can’t play Americans for fools. The truth is defeating you,” the New York governor continued.

In going after his former 2016 GOP rival, Trump slammed Kasich as a failed politician.

“John Kasich did a bad job in Ohio, ran for President and was easy to beat, and now went to the other side desperate for relevance,” he tweeted alongside a link to an article on former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie trashing Kasich.

Trump praised Christie for “exposing yet another loser!”

The president also retweeted a video of the former Ohio governor referring to presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden as a liar.

The video was taken from his speech during the 2012 Republican National Convention, when Kasich was giving a speech in favor of the GOP’s Mitt Romney-Paul Ryan ticket.

At the time, Kasich said, “Folks, let me tell you this … Joe Biden told me that he was a good golfer. And I’ve played golf with Joe Biden, I can tell you that’s not true, as well as all of the other things that he says.”

On Monday, however, Kasich changed his tune.

Standing at a literal fork in the road near his Ohio home, the CNN contributor urged listeners to vote for Biden, saying that Americans are “being taken down the wrong road by a president who has pitted one against the other. [Trump is] unlike all of our best leaders before him who work to unite us.”

“I’m sure there are Republicans and independents who couldn’t imagine crossing over to support a Democrat. They fear Joe may turn sharp left and leave them behind. I don’t believe that. He’s reasonable, faithful, respectful, and you know, no one pushes Joe around.”
