#Trump blasts GOP for allowing Democrats to hold hearings on USPS amid RNC

President Trump ripped his GOP colleagues for allowing Democrats to hold hearings and question Postmaster General Louis DeJoy in Congress as the Republican National Convention gets underway next Monday.

“Why are Republicans allowing the Democrats to have ridiculous Post Office hearings on Saturday & Monday, just before and during our Convention,” Trump wrote on Twitter Wednesday. “Let them hold them NOW (during their Convention) or after our Convention is over. Always playing right into their hands! @senatemajldr”

DeJoy, a GOP donor who was appointed to head up the US Postal Service in May, has come under fire from Democrats who claim changes he made to the agency will hamper its ability to handle the surge of mail-in ballots expected for the November election because of coronavirus fears.

DeJoy is scheduled to testify before a Senate panel on Friday and at a House hearing on Monday.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has also called lawmakers back from their August break to debate legislation that would prohibit DeJoy from implementing those cost-cutting changes to services and equipment.

A vote is expected on Saturday.

DeJoy on Tuesday pledged not to make any changes to the Postal Service until after the election.

“The Postal Service is ready today to handle whatever volume of election mail it receives this fall,” he said in a statement.

The RNC kicks off next Monday and will continue through Thursday.

The Democrats are holding their all-virtual convention this week.
