#How Grogu’s Story May Continue in the Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka Series

As a legendary Muppet once said, “It’s not easy being green,” and that is certainly true for the fan-favorite and freakishly adorable co-star of Disney’s The Mandalorian, Grogu. Seeing the little green guy return for the last two episodes of Disney’s most recent Star Wars project, The Book of Boba Fett, was an unexpected but welcome addition to the show’s steadily increasing cast of characters.

However, more than fan service, Grogu’s inclusion in The Book of Boba Fett shows that Disney is not done with the character yet and that there is still plenty more of his story to tell. While the most obvious place to continue Grogu’s story would be with his friend Din Djarin (played by Pedro Pascal) in the upcoming The Mandalorian season 3, that may not be the only place that fans may get to see him.

If the Marvel Cinematic Universe has shown us anything, it’s that in recent years, the people at Disney are huge fans of crossovers. In fact, outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars, there have been hints that characters from Disney’s own 2017 reboot of Ducktales may spin off into other shows, such as the rumored reboot of Darkwing Duck. So, with that in mind, what is to stop Grogu from appearing in other upcoming Star Wars projects such as the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi or Ahsoka series? The answer to that question may not be as difficult to imagine as one might think.

Where Else Could Grogu Appear?

Of the myriad of known Star Wars-related projects coming to Disney+ and theaters, the only one that can be effectively ruled out for potential Grogu appearances is The Acolyte (which at this point does not have a release date). The reason for this is that the show’s official description says it’s set during the “High Republic Era,” which, according to the official Star Wars canon timeline, is before the events of 1999’s The Phantom Menace.

That being said, one shouldn’t be so quick to count out the appearance of Grogu in The Acolyte completely, as it was stated upon his introduction in the first episode of The Mandalorian that despite the little guy’s appearance, he is over fifty years old. The events of The Phantom Menace take place approximately thirty-two years before the Battle of Yavin (as seen in 1977’s A New Hope), while the events of The Mandalorian take place nine years after the Battle of Yavin. That means that there are approximately nine years of unaccounted time regarding the events of Grogu’s life. If Grogu is set to appear in The Acolyte, it is entirely possible that audiences could see Grogu as a newborn or a toddler. A child not just in appearance, but age as well.

Even the producers of Obi-Wan Kenobi, which is slated to debut on May 25th of this year, have been surprisingly tight-lipped about the show’s plot.

There are many reasons for this, and Disney has been no stranger to messing with fans’ expectations (such as when The Incredible Hulk appeared in all the trailers for Avengers: Infinity War), but ultimately this means that at the end of the day, anything can happen. Given Grogu ‘s freakishly adorable nature and his proclivity for traveling the galaxy, it’s likely that fans can expect him to appear anywhere at any time. With his long lifespan, he could potentially be present for all the upcoming major events in the Star Wars universe.

What does this mean for Grogu?

The thing to remember about Grogu when speculating where his story will ultimately go and where he will ultimately appear is that the little guy has the potential to live a very, very long life. The only other notable member of his species, the Jedi Grand Master Yoda, by his own admission, was stated to be over nine hundred years old when he died in 1983’s Return of the Jedi. With this in mind, it is extremely likely that Grogu will outlive every single known character in the Star Wars universe, save for only a few. Luke Skywalker knew this to be true better than most, as he said to Grogu in episode six of The Book of Boba Fett, “A short time for you is a lifetime for someone else.”

He will always be his freakishly adorable green self and endear audiences with his adorableness no matter where or when he appears. If he is to grow, change, and have a proper arc, then it will likely be by the actions of other characters that will allow that to happen, as opposed to his own actions.


After all, if Grogu is still considered a baby at fifty years of age, then it will more than likely take another fifty years of in-universe time for him to grow out of that phase of his life, by which time many of the characters we all know and love may have passed on. Regardless, as a baby, a toddler, or an adult, much like Yoda before him, Grogu will no doubt continue to endear himself to audiences worldwide regardless of where he appears.
