#GKIDS To Bring Lonely Castle in the Mirror To North America

GKIDS has announced its acquisition of the 2022 anime movie Lonely Castle in the Mirror, which will come to North American theaters in the summer. Audiences will be able to experience the movie in Japanese and an English dub.

Lonely Castle in the Mirror had its Japanese premiere on December 23. It is an adaptation of Mizuki Tsujimura‘s Poplar-published novel (titled Kakami no Kojou/The Solitary Castle in the Mirror in the original non-translated version). 

GKIDS describes the plot as:

Shy outcast Kokoro has been avoiding school for weeks when she discovers a portal in her bedroom mirror. She reaches through and finds herself transported to an enchanting castle where she is joined by six other students. When a girl in a wolf mask explains that they have been invited to play a game, the teens must work together to uncover the mysterious connection that unites them. However, anyone who breaks the rules will be eaten by a wolf.

The film is directed by Keiichi Hara (Birthday Wonderland, Miss Hokusai) with Miho Maruo (Birthday Wonderland) as scriptwriter, Keigo Sasaki (The Millionaire Detective Balance: Unlimited) as character designer and chief animation director, Ilya Kuvshinov (Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 character designer) as visual concept artist and lonely castle designer, and Harumi Fuuki (The Deer King) as music composer. A-1 Pictures is the animation production company.

The original novel was first published in 2017. It was later translated into English by Philip Gabriel and released with the Lonely Castle in the Mirror title in 2021.
