“#Tour the Locations of Zegapain at Upcoming Virtual Anniversary Event”

Mecha anime series Zegapain turns 15 this year — and, rather appropriately, it’s getting a fully virtual exhibit to celebrate!
The upcoming event was created in conjunction with VR/AR developer Gugenka, and will take place completely online. Visitors can tour the virtual event space to check out production materials, original art, and a life-sized figure of main girl Ryoko Kaminagi.
Behind the event’s paywall is a recreation of many places from the series, including Kyo’s high school swimming pool and locations aboard the OCEANUS.
If you prefer the IRL experience, head over to Gallery of Hakaba starting August 20. The event space will be hosting its own real-world Zegapain exhibition, and selling shirts, masks, stickers, and other goods:
Finally, Newtype Shinjuku Subculture Café and Bar will be hosting a Zegapain collab event, featuring menu and drink items based on the series. You’ll also get one of a series of random coasters for ordering off the drink menu, and can shop for cute goods while you’re there.
The café will run from August 7 to September 5.
Zegapain premiered in 2006, produced at Sunrise and directed by Masami Shimoda (Saber Marionette J, 11eyes). In it, protagonist Kyo leads a quiet life in his high school swim club until he’s invited to pilot a mecha in a game-like world. But his new experiences begin to feel familiar, and he starts to question the reality of his own world.
