#Tonari no Yokai-san TV Anime Premieres in 2024, Reveals Teaser Visual

The previously announced Tonari no Yokai-san anime adaptation has been confirmed to be a TV anime series that will premiere in 2024. The news was revealed by the original manga artist noho, who also posted a new teaser visual on their Twitter account.

In March 2022, Amazon listed the fourth and final volume of the original manga series with plans for an anime adaptation. Further details about the anime project were not released at the time.

Tonari no Yokai-san was originally serialized on noho’s Twitter account in July 2018 and was published by East Press. It was also serialized on the Mato Grosso website. A total of four tankoubon volumes were released, with an additional two-volume side story that was shipped in August 2022.

The manga is set in a rural Japanese town and tells stories of the carefree, heartwarming, and mysterious lives of yokai, humans, and gods who peacefully live alongside each other.

The manga’s first story follows a 20-year-old cat named Buchio, who suddenly evolves into a mythical Nekomata creature. Buchio worries why they suddenly turned into a yokai creature. Together with their transforming fox friend Yuri, they start attending a “Bakegaku” academy for yokai creatures.
