#What will ultimately decide Nets’ fate

On paper, the Nets appear to be as good as any team in the NBA this season with the return of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

But according to former superstars Reggie Miller and Chris Webber, who are now NBA analysts for TNT, the Nets need to see the value in the team’s supporting cast if they want to have legitimate hopes of winning a championship.

“You always hear people say there’s only one basketball, they got to share the basketball,” Miller, a five-time All-Star, said of Durant and Irving on a Zoom call Wednesday. “To me, that’s not going to be the problem because they’ve always wanted to play with one another and they’ve only wanted for each other to succeed. The question is going to be, the [Caris] LeVerts and the [Spencer] Dinwiddies, can they get those guys involved? I’m not so much worried about Kyrie and Durant, and how that union will be. How can they get Joe Harris involved?

“If they want to be successful and they want to win the East, and they want to potentially win a championship, they’re going to need those others to play at a high level. I’m not worried about the future Hall of Famers on that team, it’s the role players that are going to be key for the success for the Brooklyn Nets.”

Miller said he expects both Durant and Irving to average “close to 30 points a game.” However, the Pacers legend believe the Nets’ success will be measured by how much their teammates contribute.

“Sixty [points] won’t win, 60 won’t win it for you,” Miller quipped.

Webber agreed that it would be up to players such as LeVert, Dinwiddie, Harris, DeAndre Jordan and Jarrett Allen to set the Nets apart in the Eastern Conference.

And it’s because the Nets have such a talented roster that Webber thinks first-year coach Steve Nash has the toughest coaching job in the league.

“I do think he’s ready, but I do think that there can be issues in the locker room that the average coach or veteran coach has never had before with this team, depending on personalities,” said Webber, who played for six different teams over the course of 15 NBA seasons. “Because you have so many, you have two great players that the media, including myself, hang on their words. That can affect the coach.”

Miller cited Nash’s strong relationship with both Durant and Irving as a major advantage for the Hall of Fame point guard. He then pointed to the memorable relationship between former Bulls head coach Phil Jackson and Michael Jordan during Chicago’s six-championship dynasty from 1991-98.

“He already has the two superstars’ attention,” Miller said of Nash. “To me, and we saw this with Phil Jackson and Michael Jordan, Phil was never afraid to coach, to get on Michael Jordan. And the rest of the guys saw that. It trickles down. So he can’t tiptoe around those guys, but also too, you don’t want to alienate them as well. So it’s a fine balance that Steve is going to have to walk.”

The Nets announced the signings of free agents Elie Okobo and Kaiser Gates Wednesday afternoon.

Both Okobo and Gates signed Exhibit 10 contracts, a source told The Post’s Brian Lewis, meaning they agreed to one-year deals that the Nets can convert into two-way contracts prior to the start of the regular season.

Okobo spent the first two seasons of his career with the Suns, where he appeared in a total of 108 games with 19 starts. The 22-year-old French point guard saw action in 55 games in 2019-20, averaging four points in 13.1 minutes.

The 6-foot-7 Gates, who went undrafted out of Xavier in 2018, comes to Brooklyn after spending the 2019-20 season with the Celtics’ G-League affiliate.
