#TLC’s ‘sMothered’ recap: ‘Snuggle parties’ and boyfriend troubles

TLC’s “sMothered,” co-produced by The Post, follows several pairs of mothers and daughters who push the boundaries of what it means to be close.

Season 2 (airing Sundays at 10 p.m.) has introduced Floridians Mary and Brittani, who shower together; Marcia and Alena, who lick each other in the morning; and now Laurie and Sarah.

Here’s a breakdown of Episode 3, “Date Night for Three.” Spoilers ahead!

Cher and Dawn

It’s baby o’clock for New Yorkers Cher, 29, and Dawn, 59. The duo, who also appeared on MTV’s “My Super Sweet 16” in 2007, return from Season 1. In the second season, Cher is pregnant with a girl, and Dawn wants her to do a natural birth like she did. Cher’s husband, Jared, disagrees and is displeased that Dawn is pushing her.

This week, Cher is having contractions and things are tense as they wait around their apartment — timing her contractions until they have to go to the hospital. As Dawn helps Cher through it, Jared gets petulant. “I love to be the one that supports Cher at any difficult moment, but Dawn wants to be by her side,” he complains. “I just hope Dawn doesn’t do this in the hospital.”

Everyone is anxious about getting to the hospital in time since Dawn once gave birth in a car. Will they make it? Will Dawn get in Jared’s way? We’ll have to find out in the next episode.

Mary and Brittani

After last week’s mother-daughter colon cleanse, Floridians Mary, 55, and Brittani, 19, are ready to party and celebrate Brittani’s graduation from school to be a corrections officer. Brittani is anxious because she had weight-loss surgery, and many of her friends who are coming to the party will be seeing her new look for the first time.

As Mary’s friends decorate and set up the event, Brittani starts crying. It turns out her crush, Zach, told her that he’s only interested in being friends with benefits. Mary worries that she hasn’t given Brittani positive male influences since all of her exes have cheated on her. Meanwhile, trouble is still brewing with Frank, Mary’s sort-of husband — who has cheated on her.

“They’re too close,” he tells the camera, referring to Mary and Brittani’s bond. “It’s beyond anything I’ve ever seen. I’m hoping for … changes.”

Kathy and Cristina

Success! Kathy, 61, and Cristina, 35 — the Chicago pair from Season 1 — have spent Season 2 campaigning to get Cristina’s husband, Carlo, on board with their plan. While Cristina and Carlo’s house is remodeled, they want Cristina’s family to move in with Kathy.

Finally, after dragging his feet, Carlo has agreed. But he has some caveats to living with his mother-in-law: “I want to be free to do what I want,” he says. If Kathy so much as interrupts a movie night Carlo and Cristina are having, he’ll reverse his decision and they won’t stay with Kathy anymore.

Sunhe and Angelica

Bathwater-sharing Sunhe, 52, and Angelica, 32, also returning from Season 1, have spent this season in conflict with Angelica’s fiancé, Jason. He’s not fully divorced from his ex. Angelica accepts this, but Sunhe does not. “I’ve been trying to show Angelica that she deserves more than what she’s getting from Jason,” she says.

After weeks of pushing for Jason to sign his divorce papers to start his life with Angelica without his ex hanging over his head, Sunhe hijacks the proceedings and pulls a strange reversal: She offers to sign the papers as a witness, but then delays the signing.

“I just have no idea what to say about my mom right now, completely shocked and annoyed,” says Angelica. Sunhe, meanwhile, is content that she’s in control.

Laurie and Sarah

This episode introduces a new Florida duo: Laurie, 59, and Sarah, 25. Since Laurie has various health issues, including diabetes and chronic kidney disease, their dynamic has a role reversal wherein Sarah acts like she’s the parent. “This is why you need supervision around the clock,” she tells her mom onscreen.

The pair also have a fondness for bedtime “snuggle parties,” and Sarah uses those bonding moments to appreciate her mom’s natural odor, it seems. “I’m a very anxious person, but when I smell my mom all of my anxiety or worries go away,” she says. “If I had to pick what my mom smelled like, I would describe it as a cloud.”

Sounds dreamy, but let’s move on. Health issues aside, their main conflict is Sarah’s boyfriend, Miguel. Sarah and Miguel have bought a house together but they are not engaged, and Laurie is annoyed that they are doing everything out of order. She’s also worried her health issues will mean that she won’t be able to attend their wedding if Miguel waits too long. She tells Sarah that she intends to push Miguel about the subject of proposing. “I want to give you your fantasy dream wedding,” she says.

How will Miguel react to this? Time will tell.
