Holiday season escapism

Your parents’ holiday movie is NOT “Violent Night.” It’s St. Nick with a kick and John Leguizamo as a fink robbing houses Christmas Eve. It’s David Harbour’s badass Santa and shoot’em-up bad guys. Next, Hollyweird will scratch together a stoned Easter bunny carrying a stun gun.

Leguizamo: “I couldn’t believe how violent and outlandish it was. I’m saying ‘Balls to the wall’? This what we need in modern times?”

For zonked viewers wanting to go up a pear tree with a juiced-up partridge, it’s in theaters Friday.

Want more movies? Here’s “Women Talking.” Frances McDormand bought the book. It takes place in a hayloft with Judith Ivey, Rooney Mara and Claire Foy.

McDormand: “We thought we’ll have a farm, bring the kids, live in Airstreams, and shoot in a real barn. Came COVID. When we again finally met up, the exhilaration of being together fed everyone and bonded us as a total company.”

What it’s about? I don’t know, but this thing will be in theaters in time for Christmas Day.

How about some magic? “Asi Wind’s Inner Circle.” A show you’ve never heard of which super-magician David Blaine chose as his NY producing debut. Israeli magician Wind came to Washington Square Park 20 years ago, performed for pocket change, worked with Blaine 15 years, fooled Penn & Teller and now he’s playing in Washington Square Park’s Judson Theatre. Only took 20 years to move 200 yards south.

Neil Patrick Harris, Liev Schreiber, Barry Diller, Diane von Furstenberg, Alan Cumming have all been. So, go.

IN the late 1980s, real estate giant Peter Kalikow bought the NY Post when a dance with the feds temporarily ruled against Rupert Murdoch’s ownership. Thursday’s Peter’s 80th birthday. We send love to him and his wife Mary . . . AND, in the 1990s chef Julia Child’s Thanksgiving dinner was Virginia ham . . . AND, in the now, Trump grabbed over 87 million Twitterers. Biden? Under 37 million . . . AND, Scarlett Johansson was in Rockefeller Center’s new classy restaurant Le Rock.

High fashion is fashionable once again

NO more bashin’ fashion. Shmattas are creeping back. Tommy Hilfiger’s brother Andrew, in a tux, said, “Athleisure is slow. Inventory isn’t selling.” . . . Rebecca Moses: “We must celebrate dressing again. It’s how we look at life.” . . . Dionne Warwick: “People want to see the glamour side of show business. They’re ready to get out, sit next to one another and say ‘Hello!’ ” . . . Miss America Emma Broyles: “I was fashionable on my first Miss America competition. I learned to walk in heels 10 minutes before the competition. I was 15.” . . . Candace Bushnell: “Shopping with my mother at Loehmann’s, age 12, I was first to wear hot pants. Brown velvet ones. My mom sewed them from Vogue patterns. At school they were like ‘Ooooh.’ ”

SO, this hardworking mom’s kid got accepted to a university. It’s $60,000, plus books, plus transportation, plus a car, plus clothes, plus off-campus residence. This single mother wants her daughter to get all the things she herself couldn’t afford — and then this mom wants to move in with her daughter.

And it’s NOT only in New York, kids, not only in New York.
