Podcasts and exercising go together like peaches and cream. (Don’t try to eat peaches and cream while exercising to a podcast, please.) Apple is making use of that synergy with Time to Walk, a new podcast series exclusive to its Apple Fitness+ program. It incorporates some interesting functionality with the Apple Watch and its audio programming.

Apple Fitness+ subscribers can access Time to Walk exclusively via the Apple Watch (which is required hardware to use the service), paired to Bluetooth headphones like the AirPods. When the podcast begins, the Watch will automatically begin a Walk workout, encouraging the listener to walk along as they listen. Episodes are timed between 25 and 40 minutes, making them ideal for a lunchtime stroll or a doggy potty break. Wheelchair users will get a “Time to Push” wheelchair workout instead.

Episodes are automatically downloaded to the Apple Watch. When the episode is playing, time-coded photos will appear on the Watch to enhance the experience. After the episode is finished, a playlist curated by that week’s guest will begin, allowing you to keep up a walk or fill in the extra time before getting home. It’s an interesting bit of convergence between the hardware and content sides of Apple’s continually-expanding media empire.

The initial Time to Walk program starts today, with new episodes arriving each Monday “through the end of April.” Guests lined up so far include country singer-songwriter Dolly Parton, Golden State Warriors basketball star Draymond Green, breakout social media singer Shawn Mendes, and Orange is the New Black star Uzo Aduba. While the episodes are exclusive to Apple Fitness+ subscribers ($10 a month), they don’t require any extra purchases to access.
