#Three dead, others injured in Illinois bowling alley shooting

A gunman opened fire at an Illinois bowling alley on Saturday, killing three people and leaving three others hurt, officials said.

The shooting, which authorities believe may have been a random attack, unfolded just before 7 p.m. at Don Carter Lanes in Rockford, Ill., about 90 minutes west of Chicago.

A “person of interest” was in custody Saturday night, said Rockford Police Chief Dan O’Shea.

Few details about the victims were available.

Mayor Tom McNamara pleaded with the public to “give the police the space they need to investigate this event,” adding, “keep all in your prayers.”

“I’m angered and saddened by the violence tonight at Don Carter Lanes. My thoughts are with the families of those who lost loved ones,” the mayor said in a statement.

“I’m also thinking of those who were injured and my hopes are with them for a quick and full recovery,” he said.

“I appreciate all of our first responders who quickly and heroically arrived to secure the scene,” he added.

“Our investigators have much work ahead of them to determine exactly what happened and who was responsible.”
