Grading the Giants’ 29-3 loss to the Bears on Sunday at Soldier Field.

Offense

There really is not much to say. Mike Glennon (4 of 11, 24 yards, 2 INTs, 2 fumbles, QB rating of 5.3) was so bad that you have to wonder what the coaching staff thinks of Jake Fromm to keep him on the bench, even after last week’s dismal showing. Glennon looks as if he has no pocket awareness. Of course, his protection was shameful, but not all of the four sacks are the fault of the offensive line. When gaining an inch to get out of the end zone to avoid a safety (until the next play) is considered a positive development you know this is a lousy product. Getting 151 yards in a game is pathetic, but not as pathetic as minus-10 net passing yards. Nate Solder was beaten on Trevis Gipson’s second strip-sack. You want a ray of sunshine? Saquon Barkley (21-102) looked better than he has in weeks. He took several snaps out of the Wildcat formation and ran hard.

Defense

This unit was put in terrible spots early and fought until the end. Was it great? No. Was it competitive? Yes. Lorenzo Carter continued his strong closing run with a first-quarter sack. Safety Logan Ryan on his knees in the end zone had what should have been an interception slip through his hands, costing his team three points. Rookie Azeez Ojulari leaped for a pass breakup at the line of scrimmage. CB James Bradberry had an interception off Andy Dalton late in the third quarter. The power running of David Montgomery (22-64, 2 TDs) was tough to deal with. Tae Crowder was not fooled on a Wildcat pass by Montgomery that turned into a late interception. Heck, the Bears had only 249 yards and averaged only 3.8 yards per play.

Grade: C

Special Teams

Holy smokes: Pharoh Cooper, an experienced returner, signaled for a touchback late in the second quarter — but the ball never made it into the end zone, dropping at the 2-yard line. Cooper had to scramble back to get the ball out to the 5-yard line. Cannot happen. Chicago native Julian Love dropped returner Jakeem Grant for a 1-yard gain on the first punt. Cooper had a nice 16-yard punt return, but Keion Crossen was called for holding for a loss of 10 yards. Riley Dixon dropped his first punt on the Bears’ 9-yard line. Graham Gano hit a 38-yard field goal for the only Giants’ points.

Coaching

This all falls on Joe Judge, because he sits in the big chair, as his team slides lower and lower each week. The guys who get paid to put together a professional offense have got to do better than this. They cannot do any worse. Down 14-0, Judge was steadfast playing the field-position game and punted on fourth-and-3 from the Chicago 48-yard line. Nothing matters, of course, but this was a conservative call that showed Judge has no confidence in his offense. Patrick Graham’s defense is cohesive, plays to the very end and gets absolutely no help from the other side of the ball.

Grade: D
