The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” may have broken all kinds of records, including becoming the first solo song to spend eighty consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. But it’s a different kind of blinding light that has scuppered the rollout for the Canadian singer’s new video.

According to Variety, the music video for The Weeknd’s new single “Take My Breath” was due to be played in IMAX theaters this week prior to screenings of The Suicide Squad.

However, thanks to “intense strobe lighting” featured in the clip, IMAX have decided to pull the plug on the video’s release plan over epilepsy concerns.

The single — and its accompanying video — will still be premiered as normal on YouTube at midnight ET on Friday (August 6). Those who suffer from epilepsy will still want to take caution.

“Take My Breath,” which was previewed in a commercial for the Tokyo Olympics and on social media earlier this week, is the first taste of The Weeknd’s upcoming fifth studio album.

The as-yet-untitled project will serve as the follow-up to 2020’s After Hours, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and has since been certified double platinum.

In a recent interview with GQ, The Weeknd described the record as “the album [he’s] always wanted to make.”

He also expressed his desire to collaborate with Tyler, The Creator and Kanye West — the latter of whom he appears to have already chopped it up with on the phone.
