“The Wall Street Journal: Pat Cipollone, former White House counsel, to testify Friday before Jan. 6 committee”

Panel says he is ‘uniquely positioned to testify’ as a potential witness to pivotal events related to Capitol riot

WASHINGTON—Pat Cipollone, Donald Trump’s former White House counsel, will testify under oath Friday behind closed doors to the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, according to people familiar with the agreement.

The committee issued a subpoena to Cipollone late last month, setting July 6 as the date for him to appear for a deposition. Cipollone and his attorney didn’t immediately reply to questions Wednesday about his response to the subpoena or whether he planned to claim that certain interactions with Trump are protected by privilege as White House counsel.

In a letter accompanying the subpoena on June 29, the committee noted that Cipollone had sat for an informal interview on April 13. In the weeks since then, the committee said it had obtained information about which Cipollone was “uniquely positioned to testify,” but Cipollone had refused to cooperate further, necessitating the subpoena.
