#The trap Joe Judge wants Giants to avoid regarding the Cowboys

Giants head coach Joe Judge made sure his players understood not to make assumptions based on how terribly the Cowboys have performed on defense this season. Sure, Dallas has allowed 39, 38 and 49 points in the past three games. That does not ensure the Cowboys will be similarly awful Sunday against the Giants at AT&T Stadium.

“They’re a well-coached team, and there is a world of talent on that roster,’’ Judge said. “For us to think that just because someone had a rough outing one week, that’s going to transfer over to the game, we expect everybody’s best every week. That’s what we anticipate getting.

“It’s our job as coaches to let the players understand what each team has, what their strengths are and how we have to play to it. It’s our job as coaches to make sure our team doesn’t go in ever overconfident, no matter what the situation or circumstance is. We have to anticipate the opponent’s best every week. This is a very talented roster and we know what we’re going to get.’’

Safety Logan Ryan is a native of New Jersey and, as such, knows how to ingratiate himself with the Giants’ fan base, especially this week.

“I do not like the Cowboys, personally,’’ Ryan said. “Growing up in New Jersey, no matter what team you root for, you root against the Cowboys.’

“I love the energy the fans bring, the good and bad,’’ Ryan said. “Nothing is [better] than quieting a road stadium. I think it will be fun. I wish we had fans here in New Jersey, they bring a lot of energy to the game. I’m excited for it, but we have to do something to quiet those [Cowboys] fans. We have to play well and that’s the best thing we have to do. I’m focused on playing, first and foremost. I never mind the crowd, the bigger the better. I feel like that’s when I perform my best.’’

Rams CB Jalen Ramsey was fined $15,625, according to ESPN, for last week’s postgame dust-up with Giants WR Golden Tate, though Tate wasn’t fined for his role in the fracas.

There will be about 20,000 people allowed inside AT&T Stadium for the game, marking the first time this season the Giants will play with fans in the seats.

The Giants have lost six straight games to the Cowboys, dating back to a two-game sweep by Dallas in 2016, Ben McAdoo’s first year as head coach.

The Giants catch a break in that they will not have to find a way around left tackle Tyron Smith, who this week was placed on season-ending injured reserve with a neck issue. Brandon Knight, an undrafted free agent, will make his third start of the season in place of Smith. The right tackle is rookie Terence Steele, who has struggled replacing La’el Collins, who is out for the season following hip surgery.

Rookie LT Andrew Thomas is going through first-year growing pains and is not coming off a strong showing last week vs. the Rams.

He will try his hand against LB Aldon Smith, who leads the Cowboys with four sacks. A reclamation project, Smith had not played an NFL game since 2015 dealing with multiple suspensions stemming from substance abuse, DUI and alleged domestic violence incidents. Smith’s 19.5 sacks in 2012 is a 49ers’ franchise record and his 33.5 sacks in his first two seasons is an NFL record.
