#The Tesla Cybertruck Delay Is Worse Than We Thought – Review Geek

Last month, Tesla quietly confirmed that Cybertruck production won’t begin until 2022. But the delay is worse than we thought—in a company-wide call with Tesla employees, Elon Musk announced that Cybertruck production is delayed until late 2022, and we may need to wait until late 2023 for the electric pickup to reach volume production.

Tesla first announced the Cybertruck during a now-infamous November 2019 event. It was originally slated for a 2021 release, and could have been one of the first electric pickup trucks to hit the market. Now, it seems like the Hummer EV and Ford F150 EV will take its place—so long as GM and Ford can navigate growing supply chain issues.

As reported by Electrek, Elon Musk blames the Cybertruck delay on basic engineering and production difficulties. Tesla has spent the last 10 months refining the Cybertruck’s design, and according to Musk, it contains so much new technology that a production ramp-up will be difficult.

Will Tesla stick to its new timeline? Well, the company needs to face a lot of hurdles before it can even start Cybertruck production. Tesla hopes to manufacture the Cybertruck in its Austin “Gigafactory” after it’s done with the Model Y, so any difficulties that face the Model Y could impact the Cybertruck’s launch.

Even if Tesla manages to begin Cybertruck production in late 2022, most people won’t get their order until sometime in 2023 or 2024. Over a million people have reserved the Cybertruck, and if today’s news is any indication, initial manufacturing volume will be very low.
