#The only ‘undemocratic’ thing about Manchin killing BBB is the Squad’s crying

It doesn’t get more entitled, elitist or undemocratic than the Squad’s temper tantrum at Sen. Joe Manchin’s announcement that he’s a “no” on President Joe Biden’s multitrillion-dollar spending plan.

His reasons are simple: “If I can’t go home and explain it to the people of West Virginia, I can’t vote for it.” He also cited the madness of spending fresh trillions amid decades-high inflation, skyrocketing national debt and the ongoing pandemic.

Cue the Squad whingeing.

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) took to Twitter to call Manchin’s explanation “bulls–t,” insisting, “The people of West Virginia would directly benefit” from the new spending.

Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) accused him of “obstructing” the president’s agenda, charging that Manchin “has never negotiated in good faith.”

It’s just the kind of harassment Manchin cited Monday as another reason he’s rejecting the bill. He said the progressives acted as if they just bullied him enough — and encouraged people to heckle him at home or follow Sen. Kyrsten Sinema into bathrooms — he’d go along. No dice.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-Queens/B’klyn) wins the prize for concluding, “It is unconscionable the way the Senate operates. It’s fundamentally undemocratic,” she said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” demanding a “crackdown on the Senate, which operates like an old boy’s club that has a couple of gals.”

Yet the Senate operates exactly as the Framers intended, deep-freezing legislation that lacks a sustained popular mandate. As James Madison wrote in the Federalist Papers: “The necessity of a senate is not less indicated by the propensity of all single and numerous assemblies, to yield to the impulse of sudden and violent passions, and to be seduced by factious leaders into intemperate and pernicious resolutions.”

In this instance, the violent passions of a crying Squad who are acting as if Manchin alone is killing its agenda. In reality, he’s joined by 50 GOP senators, for a majority in opposition. (And other Senate Democrats are sympathetic — but reluctant to risk the hard left’s ire.)

To the Squad, as AOC puts it, “democracy is on the line.” Meaning it’s not democracy if the group does’t get its way, actual majorities be damned.
