The J.R. Smith-LeBron James reunion is almost official.

The Lakers are “working through the final steps” of a deal with the free-agent Smith to join their roster for the NBA’s resumption in Orlando, ESPN reported.

The roster spot became available after Avery Bradley announced he would be sitting out when games are scheduled to resume on July 30 at Disney World, opening the door for Smith to get another shot at chasing a championship with James.

Smith, 34, won a title with the Cavaliers in 2016 but has not played since Nov. 19, 2018. The last time he played in the postseason was the 2018 NBA Finals, when he had a memorable gaffe in Game 1 against the Warriors. He corralled a rebound with 4.7 seconds left in regulation of a tie game and began to dribble out the clock, thinking the Cavs were leading. Instead, they lost in overtime and eventually were swept.

A New Jersey native and former Knick, Smith will now try to help the Lakers, the current top seed in the Western Conference.
