The Journey of Elaina in New Collaboration Visual & Video

The respective magical heroines of Once Upon a Witch’s Death and Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina meet for the first time in a newly released collaboration visual and video. It features both Meg Raspberry and Elaina encouraging one another before the former’s show debuts.

Once Upon a Witch’s Death is scheduled to premiere in Japan on April 1, 2025. Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina aired in Japan for 12 episodes from October 2, 2020 to December 18, 2020, with Crunchyroll currently streaming the series and C2C as the animation production company. 

Atsushi Nigorikawa (Beast Tamer, Between the Sky and Sea) is directing Once Upon a Witch’s Death, with Keiichiro Ochi (Go, Go, Loser Ranger!, The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio) as series screenwriter, and Yukishizuku (Smile of the Arsnotoria the Animation) as character designer. EMT Squared is handling the animation production. 

Meanwhile, the main voice cast includes: 

  • • Yoshino Aoyama as Meg Raspberry
  • • Yoshiko Sakakibara as Faust
  • • Miharu Hanai as Carbuncle 
  • • Aina Suzuki as White-Owl 
  • • Rumi Okubo as Fine Cavendish 
  • • Hina Yomiya as Sophie Hayter 
  • • Atsumi Tanezaki as Mysterious Girl

The anime is based on the light novel series by Saka and illustrated by Chorefuji. It was first published under ASCII Media Works’s Dengeki no Shinbungei imprint on December 17, 2021. Three volumes have been released as of March 2025. Yen Press licensed the light novels for release in English for North America. 

A manga adaptation by Kenu Amearare was released in March 2023 and is published digitally in English on Kadokawa’s BookWalker website. Three tankobon volumes have been released as of September 2024, with a fourth volume that will be released on April 10, 2025.

Crunchyroll will stream Once Upon a Witch’s Death worldwide, outside of Asia, and describes the main synopsis as: 

Meg Raspberry is just an apprentice witch celebrating her 17th birthday. That is, until Faust, her magic teacher and Perennial Witch of the Seven Sages, suddenly reveals she is going to die. To stop the Death Sentence curse, Meg must create the Seed of Life using tears of joy from 1,000 people. Join Meg on her travels as she collects the happy tears from everyone she meets to gain eternal life!
