Even if that means taking a puck flying full-speed straight to the face.
“Guy’s got a golf ball on the side of his cheek,” teammate Andrew Copp said in a video revealing Poolman’s nasty injury after the puck struck him underneath his visor.
During Tuesday night’s matchup against the Calgary Flames, Poolman went down with the gut-wrenching injury from blocking a shot early in the second period. Blood from the side of his face quickly poured onto the ice, leaving a long trail as he was quickly assisted into the locker room.
“Tucker was really lucky he didn’t lose any teeth,” Winnipeg Jets head coach Paul Maurice said. “He’s got some sutures there. He’s got a giant-sized…five golf balls. He’s got a huge welt on the side of his face.”
Despite receiving the ghastly injury, Poolman returned from the locker room to skate in the third period. This time, he came equipped with a full mask to evade any sneaky pucks.
“Absolute warrior!” Cobb said.
The Jets ultimately lost to the Flames 6-2, and trail Calgary 2-1 in their best-of-five series. Winnipeg faces potential elimination from the Stanley Cup Playoffs during Game 4 on Thursday night.
