#’The Ellen Show’ Loses Viewership Following Toxic Workplace Allegations

The Ellen DeGeneres Show is has continued to make headlines over the last year, but not so much for the message of “being kind to one another” that host Ellen DeGeneres promotes each episode.

It’s been a rollercoaster following allegations of a toxic work environment, which DeGeneres addressed in the current season’s opening episode back in September, and it’s now being reflected in the show’s ratings.

“As you may have heard, this summer there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show and then there was an investigation,” DeGeneres had addressed her audience in the Season 18 premiere. “I learned that things happened here that never should have happened.”

In a new report from The New York Times, it would appear as though the controversy has taken its toll on reliable viewership. According to the outlet, Nielsen ratings reveal a down-tick in regular viewing, revealing that the show has averaged 1.5 million daily viewers over the past six months in comparison to 2.6 million the year before.

That means the show has lost just over a million viewers, that’s a big hit no matter which way you look at it. At the time of the show’s return, Season 18’s premiere garnered one of the show’s largest audiences in years, but the ratings haven’t stuck.

Upon The Ellen DeGeneresShow‘s return last fall, the host said, “We have made the necessary changes and today, we are starting a new chapter.” Only time will tell if that new chapter includes a ratings improvement.
