Studio Ghibli’s new success “The Boy and the Heron” now has fixed start dates for Germany, Austria and Switzerland!

The latest film “The Boy and the Heron” von Studio Ghibli and Regisseur Hayao Miyazaki can be seen in Japan since July 14, 2023. Since then, fans of the studio and director have been wondering when the film will be released worldwide. While other countries have known their start dates for a long time, we finally have all the start dates for the German-speaking region together.

While in Austria While the film was shown as an Austrian premiere at the Viennale on October 20th (OmeU) and 29th October 2023 (OmdU), there will be preview screenings in the Vienna cinema from December 31st, 2023 Movie Casino. The synchro premiere will take place there on January 6th, 2024 in the Filmcasino. The regular Austrian start is on January 11, 2024.

In the German-speaking Switzerland started “The Boy and the Heron” (there under the intl. title «The Boy and the Heron») am 23. November 2023. Fans in Deutschland can see the film in local cinemas from January 9, 2024. The OmU and the German synchro have been confirmed for both Austria and Germany.

The different start dates are due, among other things, to the different rental companies. While distributor Wild Bunch (now called GoodFellas) releases the film itself through its subsidiaries Wild Bunch Germany and Central Film Verleih, other companies are responsible in Austria (Polyfilm) and Switzerland (Frenetic). There is no German poster or trailer yet.
