Highlights from Sunday’s Jets practice:

The good

The offense came to life at the end of the practice during a scrimmage period. QB Sam Darnold led a 71-play drive that culminated in a 7-yard touchdown pass to Chris Hogan. It was against the second-team defense but this was a step forward for the offense.

The bad

This was the first time the Jets practiced at MetLife Stadium. You could really feel the lack of fans. There is just no energy. The piped in crowd noise is just plain odd. It will be a very strange year with no one in the seats.

Caught my eye

OLB Frankie Luvu made some nice plays. He beat rookie tackle Mekhi Becton for what would have been a sack in a real game. He also displayed some coverage skills downfield and broke up a pass.

Medical report

RB La’Mical Perine suffered an ankle injury that required further tests. S Marcus Maye left the practice with calf tightness, though coach Adam Gase said the team was just being cautious. WRs Denzel Mims (hamstring), Breshad Perriman (knee), Jeff Smith (shoulder) and Lawrence Cager (knee) remained out. CBs Pierre Desir (hamstring) and Brian Poole (reaction to dehydration) also did not practice. Poole warmed up but sat out of drills. Gase said he is close to returning.
