“The Best Movies Coming to Paramount+ in August 2022”

“What time is it? Summertime. It’s our vacation!” You probably don’t need High School Musical 2 to remind you that summertime is here, and that means it’s time to relax poolside, tan at the beach, go on spontaneous adventures, and host summer movie nights before school starts again. In this modern age of online streaming sites, thousands of movies are available at your fingertips, making the possibilities for movie nights endless. Plus, for your convenience, each streaming site releases a list of its new content before the month starts. So, this makes it easy to browse streaming sites to see which ones have the best selections.

Every day, online streaming sites are constantly trying to compete for your monetary support and undivided attention. Therefore, these streaming services are constantly updating their content and creating new original films. They hope that you will choose their site to commit to for at least one more month. With that in mind, here are the best movies coming to Paramount+ this August.

8 RoboCop

In the 1987 sci-fi/action film RoboCop, the city of Detroit is on the brink of financial ruin. To help turn things around, the city gives control of the police department over to Omni Consumer Products (OCP), a powerful but corrupt and evil corporation that implements RoboCop, a droid designed to act as a police officer. Naturally, things go from bad to worse as RoboCop eventually turns on its power-hungry creators. “RoboCop, the future of law enforcement,” becomes available for streaming on August 22nd.

7 Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion

In Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, the blonde is leading the blonde. Ten short years after graduating from high school, Romy (Mira Sorvino) and Michele (Lisa Kudrow) are living the dream. They both have successful careers and are in relationships with wonderful men, or at least that’s what they are telling everyone at the reunion. However, as they try to impress their former classmates with their “perfect” lives, their lies soon spin out of control. Enjoy this ’90s cult classic starting August 1st only on Paramount+.

6 The Graduate

What happens when recent college graduate Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) is seduced by a bored housewife and family friend Mrs. Robinson (Anne Bancroft)? Benjamin naturally falls for not Mrs. Robinson, but her daughter Elaine (Katharine Ross) instead, and things soon get complicated for everyone involved. In addition to the family drama unfolding, The Graduate is supported by a wonderful score performed by world-renowned folk-rock duo Simon and Garfunkel. “And here’s to you, Mrs. Robinson. Jesus loves you more than you will know.” The iconic, trailblazing ’60s film hits Paramount+ on August 1st.

5 Planes, Trains And Automobiles

Summer is the perfect time to relax, kick back, and laugh. This next entry is considered a classic comedy by many. In Planes, Trains and Automobiles, poor Neal Page (Steve Martin) will do anything he can to get back to Chicago in time to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with his wife (Laila Robins) and kids. Neal is a bit of a control freak and when his flight is rerouted to Kansas due to a snowstorm, he finds all control quickly slipping through his fingers as he’s forced to team up with the endlessly amiable and obnoxious Del Griffith (an incredible John Candy). Despite everything going wrong that can, Neal takes planes, trains, and automobiles and eventually makes it back to his family in time, but not before chaos ensues. Planes, Trains And Automobiles is available starting August 1st. “Please. Have Mercy. I’ve Been Wearing the Same Underwear Since Tuesday.”

4 Grease

“I got chills, they’re multiplying. And I’m losing control. ‘Cause the power you’re supplying. It’s electrifying”. Grease is one of those beloved musicals that everyone knows and loves. Experience high school in the 1950s as you follow the story of sweet and prim Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) who falls for leather-clad bad boy Danny (John Travolta). Despite their differences, Sandy and Danny begin a relationship and live happily ever after, (at least until the film is over), as is typical with most musicals. Enjoy this classic musical starting August 1st. “You’re the one that I want (you are the one I want). “Ooh, ooh, ooh, honey.”

3 There Will Be Blood

There Will Be Blood becomes available on August 1st and stars Daniel Day-Lewis as Daniel Plainview, a silver miner, oil prospector, and con artist. Using an adopted son to portray a trustworthy, family-man image, Daniel embarks on a scheme to con local landowners into selling him their valuable properties for inadequate sums of money. However, his actions haven’t gone unnoticed by the local preacher who questions Daniel’s intentions. This historical psychological drama features a stellar performance by multi-Academy Award winner Day-Lewis as a ruthless man motivated by greed, and a wonderfully ambiguous performance from Paul Dano.

2 Secret Headquarters

From producer Jerry Bruckheimer comes the action-packed film and Paramount+ original, Secret Headquarters. Premiering on August 12th on Paramount+, Secret Headquarters follows the story of Charlie Kincaid (Walker Scobell) an ordinary, rebellious kid who discovers his father’s (Owen Wilson) secret superhero headquarters. Now, Charlie and his friends must defend the lair from evil villains who are out to destroy the world. This family-friendly film looks exciting and hilarious, and is, oddly enough, directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, the filmmakers behind the Catfish franchise.

1 Orphan: First Kill

Another original film coming to Paramount+ in August is Orphan: First Kill, a prequel to the 2009 movie Orphan, which introduced to the shy, mysterious, and deadly, orphan Esther. As the title implies, Orphan: First Kill is about the origin of Esther, who is mentally insane and hiding a disturbing secret. This prequel explores her backstory, including her first murder and the events that made her an unstable maniac. Watch this horror/drama/mystery when it premieres on Paramount+ on August 19th.
