#’Terrifying’ TikTok laundry hack sets woman’s dryer on fire

This laundry hack had a load of red flags.

A woman nearly set her dryer on fire after making her own flammable dryer sheets based off a TikTok “do it yourself” tutorial video.

Hailee Clarke of the United Kingdom said she was “lucky to be alive” after improvising “tumble dryer sheets” from a cloth, fabric softener and water, an incendiary concoction which could have yielded worse results beyond cooked clothes.

“We were woken up this morning to the house filled with smoke,” Clarke said in a TikTok where she showed her fully loaded, blackened and burned machine.

“The dryer had been smoking, it was on fire from the inside through the night. It was absolutely terrifying.”

Commenters on TikTok were quick to rip into Clarke for mistakenly using a flammable fabric softener in the DIY trick, something she was quick to take accountability for.

“I know this is my fault so don’t need any negative comments! this is purely to help spread awareness,” Clarke wrote in her video.

Still, Clarke tried passing the blame off to the bottle of softener she used, saying its warning label was inadequate in a separate video.

Comparing that bottle of Lenor Exoctic Bloom to other household products, Clarke made the argument that since the chemical culprit didn’t have an illustrated flammable label, her mistake was an easy one to make.

“Nothing really sticks out,” Clarke said on the video, specifying that she noticed some printed children’s warnings.

Though, in that same clip she turns the bottle on its side where it is boldly printed: “WARNING: Liquid fabric softener can increase fabric flammability.”

The DIY hack can be properly pulled off with diluted fabric softener, according to Fox News.
