A teenager was shot and killed Thursday near a memorial for George Floyd at the site where Floyd died at the hands of police in Minneapolis, according to reports.

Police said the 17-year-old was gunned down just three blocks from the intersection where Floyd died while being pinned down by cops on May 25, an event which sparked a global outcry for racial justice, WCCO-TV reported.

The unidentified teen was shot outside a local market around 6 p.m. on the East 3500 block of Chicago Avenue, the outlet said.

Police said they responded to a report of shots fired and found the victim outside the store with no pulse. Officers attempted to revive the teen at the scene but he was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The incident was the Minnesota city’s 37th homicide this year. In total, 274 people have been shot in 2020, the Star Tribune reported.

Police said the gunman fled the scene.

Floyd died while being pinned down by four Minneapolis cops while repeatedly pleading, “I can’t breathe.”

The officers were fired the following day and now face murder and accessory charges. Derek Chauvin, the cop seen on viral video pinning Floyd down with his knee for nearly eight minutes, is being held on a $1.25 million bond awaiting trial on murder charges.

The scene has since become a memorial to Floyd.
