A Connecticut teacher who was quarantining in his family’s home because he feared he had COVID-19 has been missing for nearly two months, his worried relatives said.

Gil Cunha — who was working as a West Haven Public School teacher before the coronavirus pandemic — was last seen in the early hours of his 50th birthday on May 7, at his family’s home in the West Shore neighborhood, NBC News reported.

Cunha’s father saw him watching TV between 12 a.m. and 2 a.m., but then his mother woke up to find him gone, the report said.

His driver’s license appeared to be missing, but he left behind two cell phones, credit and debit cards, cash and his passport, according to the report.

“It wasn’t unusual for Gil to go out for a walk,” cousin, Lori Kenney, told the outlet. “But when he didn’t return later that day, [his mom] knew something was wrong. He wouldn’t just take off without contacting his family.”

Relatives said they were also worried because Cunha had been quarantining with COVID-19 symptoms at the time of his disappearance.

“He was never tested for the virus. But he wasn’t feeling well and decided to self-isolate in his room because he was afraid he had the virus,” Kenney said.

His family is growing more frantic each day he’s missing.

“If something happened to him because of the virus, or if he harmed himself, or even if someone did something to him, we would still find him. But he’s just gone without a trace,” Kenney said.
