Target giving workers a $200 bonus

Target has now invested nearly $1 billion in its workers, topping 2019

Target Corp. said Monday that it will once again offer its frontline workers and leaders a bonus, this time for $200.

The bonuses will be paid out by early November to 350,000 employees.

This is the fourth time in 2020 that Target

has given its workers bonus pay. All told, when including bonuses, benefits, and the minimum pay raise to $15 per hour implemented in July, Target says it has invested nearly $1 billion in its workers, topping 2019.

The announcement comes as Target and other retailers get the holiday shopping season into full swing following Amazon.com Inc.’s
AMZN,
-1.06%
Prime Day event last week.

Target, Walmart Inc.

and other retailers have announced plans to stretch Black Friday promotions throughout the month of November in light of the impact from the coronavirus pandemic, and are making adjustments to meet an expected surge in e-commerce demand.

Target stock has gained 29.6% for the year to date while the S&P 500 index

is up 8.4% for the period.
