“Tales of the Jedi Storylines We Hope to See”
While the series will be remarkably short (each episode is only 15 minutes), it looks at one of the most interesting and unexplored parts of the Star Wars mythology: the time before the prequel. The show will follow the stories of two Clone Wars-era Jedi, and according to the discussion had at the Tales of the Jedi panel in May, Filoni described the series with the words “two paths and two choices.”
During the six episodes, they will follow the early paths of Ahsoka Tano, who we always want to see more of, and Count Dooku, of whom we have seen very little. Each will receive three episodes in the series, but what could they possibly be planning for two of our most independent Jedi?
Ahsoka’s Jedi Journey
According to the SWCA, the three episodes dedicated to each Jedi will explore them at different times in their life. So, for example, in one episode, we would see a character at a very young age, and then immediately in the next episode, they might be halfway through their Jedi training. It’s like that with Ahsoka. In the sneak peek given to audiences at the panel, the show’s premiere episode features her mother and shows Anakin’s padawan as a baby on her home planet.
Fans were astounded at how cute the baby Ahsoka was, saying that she could rival Grogu. One more thing revealed was that Ahsoka’s mother would be voiced by Janina Gavankar, who also did work on the Battlefront II game.
Ahsoka’s early life might give fans a look at what we might call a cult-favorite Jedi. As fans might know, the force-sensitive Ahsoka was first discovered and brought to the Jedi Temple by Plo Koon, a Kel Dor Jedi master with an orange lightsaber. Though he was seen very little in the movies, fans who play the video games will recognize him because he is a character that appears very frequently in this part of the Star Wars universe.
He is known to be a very powerful Jedi master and one of the few members wielding the light side of the force who can control force lightning. Along Ahsoka’s journey to become a Jedi, it would be a big treat for many Star Wars fanatics to see Plo Koon in action.
But aside from this little luxury, it will certainly be a joy to see Ahsoka’s relationship with her mother. As Dave Filoni said at SWCA:
“Ahsoka’s first experience with someone telling her, ‘Don’t be afraid,’ is her mother.”
And this defining moment affects her for the rest of her life. As we all know, Ahsoka has had a difficult moral journey, being trained by the man who would become Darth Vader, so seeing what made her what she is would be an interesting clue into how she might have overcome this confusing influence.
Count Dooku’s Difficult Path
After premiering Baby Ahsoka to the world and acknowledging that she might be cuter than Grogu, Filoni made a point of telling the audience that the series isn’t going to be all sunshine and butterflies, saying. “Some of these are dark.” He said about the rest of the series:
“I’m picturing the other shorts, and if I chose to show a Dooku short today, I don’t think we’d be talking about all the cute things in Star Wars.”
Dooku’s journey was obviously a little less happy. Estranged from both the Jedi Council and the Sith, his life was certainly full of more twists and turns. And, of course, when Dooku was a Jedi, he was master to none other than Qui-Gon Jinn. And it’s been announced that Liam Neeson will be returning to voice the role.
Qui-Gon famously acted on his own instincts, even when it was against the will of the council. This eventually led to Darth Vader’s training, but it should still be commended that he had a mind of his own. But this independence was first fostered by Count Dooku. Qui-Gon clearly looked up to him, and it will be interesting to see how his training progressed while Dooku was walking such a difficult road. And what exactly led Dooku to join the Separatist movement? How did the Jedi finally banish him from the council? When did he discover that a dark hand was moving in the shadows to conquer the galaxy? Tales of the Jedi could answer all of these questions. And we can’t wait to see it.
