The billboard was damaged at some time Tuesday morning, the local CBS affiliate reported. The sign is one of 26 billboards erected in Taylor’s hometown of Louisville by Oprah Winfrey’s magazine to call for justice in her death.
“Demand that the police involved in the killing of Breonna Taylor be arrested and charged,” the billboards read.
Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT, was asleep with her boyfriend when three undercover cops burst into her home at 1 a.m. March 13 during a botched raid and opened fire, striking her five times.
Americans across the country have protested the police killings of Taylor and George Floyd for months.
Taylor’s death has inspired lawmakers to reconsider when such raids are appropriate. Louisville’s City Council passed ‘Breonna’s law’ in June to ban no-knock warrants.
The billboard was either cleaned or replaced within hours, with a paint-free image of Taylor spotted by 5 p.m., according to the local CBS affiliate.
The city’s police chief has fired one of the officers involved for “wantonly and blindly” firing inside the home. The other two cops are on administrative leave.
The FBI is currently investigating the shooting, though there is no clear timeline as to when the agency’s work will conclude.
