Kevin Smith has done a sterling job of keeping Clerks fans updated on the work being done on the third installment of the franchise, and in his latest update it appears that Clerks 3 is pretty much ready to go and is just waiting to be given a release date. Completing the trilogy that began with Clerks In 1994 and its follow up released in 2006, Smith has once again assembled his usual suspects for the threequel, which he first discussed in 2014. After a long wait, Smith finally revealed in 2021 that the script was all done, and he would be getting cameras rolling with the aim to complete filming in the later part of the year.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

In his latest Fatman Podcast episode, Smith revealed that he is now almost ready to announce that all work on the movie is complete, and he just has the final reel to preview, and with just a few more touches it looks like the hard work will have all paid off for the writer/director. He explained:

“We’re all pretty much done here with Clerks 3…Today I watched reel 1, 2, 3, and 4. Really great, I had very minimal notes. I’m more of a fan of like, use what’s on the track, since most of my movies are all dialogue, but they sound designed some nifty things into it. The character Randal has a heart attack in the motion picture and they did some cool things with the heart attack moment, audio wise that I was like ‘oh, f*cking right on.’ And we watch reel 5 tomorrow. They wanted a little more time to do reel 5. So tomorrow I go and watch the DI playback.”

Kevin Smith Announces Clerks 3 with Jeff Anderson Returning

As already noted, Smith has been adding details of the upcoming movie to his social media accounts throughout the shoot and the subsequent post-production work he is doing on the movie. Having teased a number of images and behind the scenes clips of a return to the Quick Stop, we know that Smith has recreated some scenes from the original Clerks for the film, as the new film will see Jeff Anderson’s Randal Graves deciding that he wants to make a movie with Brian O’Halloran’s Dante Hicks, which means returning to some iconic moments from the history of the franchise.

The fact that sixteen years on from the last outing of the team, and almost thirty years since the original movie, Smith has managed to assemble the same cast shows just how loyal they are to helping Smith create his movies. While there is no doubt that Smith’s interconnected universe is not something that everyone got on board with, there are certainly a lot of fans now eagerly awaiting word on when they can expect to see this latest movie arrive to get a new fix of the type of comedy offering that Smith has made his trademark. With the work almost done, it is likely not too long before we finally get that release date set in stone, which Smith has hinted will be sometime towards the summer.
